Cosmetic Ink Oxidation – Lip Liner

Please do not attempt lip-liner removal with any laser as it has a high probability of oxidizing (turning PERMANENTLY black). The only cosmetic tattoos we can safely remove are dark inks, usually seen in eyebrow tattooing and microblading. Even then, a ‘test spot’ is recommended to see if the ink will turn darker or reveal that red and/or yellow was mixed in, which would require further treatment with the 532nm wavelength. If you ever have the slightest doubt about how an ink will react, please perform a test spot and evaluate it in about two weeks. If you have any questions about this, you can email me at The example below is published with the patient’s permission to warn others about the risk of treating cosmetic tattoos without first performing a test spot.
