Hypopigmentation Following Laser Tattoo Removal

Post laser treatment hypopigmentation can happen when a patient’s skin’s inflammatory response impedes production of melanin.  The result is lighter skin in the affected area.  I recommend a board certified dermatologist who can effectively treat hypopigmentation with topical steroids, lasers and other medications.  However, hypopigmentation can be frustrating even for a skilled dermatologist.  One example of severe hypopigmentation is vitiligo, an autoimmune disorder that leaves the skin notably bleached.  I’ve recently read studies on the subject and found a promising treatment that doesn’t require a prescription:  Nigella Sativa commonly referred to as Black Seed Oil.  The oil is used for cooking throughout the Middle East and costs roughly the same as Olive Oil. It has been used as a homeopathic remedy for hundreds of years and studies continue on its ability to heal a variety of ailments.

Black Seed Oil contains the phytochemical Thymoquinone. Phytochemicals help plants thrive or thwart competitors, predators, or pathogens.  Applied topically daily, Black Seed Oil was shown to significantly reduce severe hypopigmentation in vitiligo over a six month period.
