Remnant Tattoos Following Q-switched Laser Removal

I often see patients who have undergone numerous laser tattoo removal treatments only to be left with a lot of colorful ink remaining in the form of a blue, green or purple remnant.  The remnants are often scarred, hypopigmented or both.  This phenomenon is due to the fact that prior to the advent of the PicoSure laser, these colors were nearly impossible to remove with the existing Q-switched lasers that have been in use for decades.

Remnant B&A

Unfortunately, patients and their practitioners continued treatment even though no further fading was evident or even possible.  This leaves the skin in poor condition and increases the risk of permanent unwanted side effects.  Fortunately, the PicoSure laser is able to remove this residual ink even when it is bound by scar tissue.  In the process, the scars themselves may flatten out and soften.  The ability of the PicoSure laser to improve skin appearance (rejuvenation) has many practitioners using it for this purpose in addition to tattoo removal.  Not only can it remove unsightly pigments but it can significantly improve the texture and appearance of the skin.
